  • i think there’s also a middle ground. intercourse can be safer and vocalizations and body language can be read to understand if your companion is uncomfortable mentally or not, even during foreplay leading up to intercourse rather than waiting until during to determine if they like it. but i do also think intercourse is straight up impossible for many couplings without causing trauma and harm, which should be avoided. outercourse and other sexual play is another story; and of course just courtship minus sex is safe.

this won’t eliminate the legal and social risks of course. but these risks are taken knowingly. for some people, the benefits of the relationship do outweigh the risk. it’s going to vary from entity to entity.

iirc services are offered to test dogs for their STIs at the vet already. but i really wish these were expanded and you could be honest rather than have to make an excuse for it. other animals, i’m not really sure about.

technically the STIs that dogs can get aren’t recorded to be able to pass to humans, but you do want them clean for their own health, as well as to not be the person that fucked around and found out.

testing would be similar to how it is done for humans. they either need to draw blood, swab the genital and anal areas, or both.
