We can take a look at the comment count on major subreddits over time. Using the top 5 most commented listed on Subreddit Stats, and then using Social Rise to see comments per day (go down to “Graph of” and click “comments”).

All except Starfield show comments cratering at the beginning of July, and they’re not coming back. Obviously, Starfield is a special case given the release of the game. AITAH was also just starting to pick up and then had its jugular cut out. Across the board, there looks to be a 3 or 4 times reduction in comment rates.

Now, perhaps the site is still OK among the more niche subreddits. That’d take a lot longer to analyze. But it’s clear the big traffic drivers are not pulling people in anymore.

This is how it works now. Anything suggested to make the system a little bit better will piled on by arguments that make no sense, and don’t even seem to be attacking the actual idea.

There’s plenty of issues with making a fully enclosed vehicle sustainable regardless of drive train. Just the amount of metal needed of any kind.

They will probably always be needed for last mile deliveries or people with certain disabilities. That said, if we could get most North American cities to just 20% bike usage for people’s major commuting choice, that’d be transformative.

Most of the criticisms that come from the right are solvable problems, such as lack of chargers, electricity coming from dirty sources, or lithium mining. We pretty much know how to solve all those at this point. Just a matter of doing it.

Criticisms that come from the left tend to be more fundamental. Things like car-based cities being too spread out, infrastructure costs spiraling out of control, or having the average person operate a 2 ton vehicle at speeds over 60mph and expecting this to be safe. None of those are specific to EVs, and are only solvable by looking at different transportation options.

Mexican cartels are trying to trans your children in order to change the pledge of allegiance from “under God” to “under vaccines”. Most won’t be brave enough to share this!
