But there’s also wheat corns, oat corns, etc. And this is why we colloquially call maize “corn”. Because compared to other types of grains, it’s corn is very large. To use a older construction maize is “the corn of corns”. Meaning the biggest and best.
Except corn is a grain, not a nut.
Then what the hell are corn nuts huh? Has science gone too far?

The corn is the kernel and the “cob” of any grain. Perhaps you’ve heard of “barleycorn”. But there’s also wheat corns, oat corns, etc.
And this is why we colloquially call maize “corn”. Because compared to other types of grains, it’s corn is very large.
